Project Overview:
As Mother’s Day and Teacher Appreciation week is around the corner, let’s get crafting and create a beautiful wooden frame adorned with paper flowers. This beautiful frame can be used as a thank you gift to a teacher or friend or a warm gift to your Mom.
Materials:
- Cutting machine: LOKLiK iCraft
- Sticky mat: LOKLiK standard grip
- Cardstock: 60 lb or equivalent
- Templates: from LOKLiK Library
** Free Square and Daisy SVG file for Natural scenery SVG* - Craft glue and hot glue
- Paper shaping tool, kabob stick for rolling paper, paper scraper
- Wooden frame - purchased from Michael’s or Dollar Tree
Design and Cutting Process:
- Using the LOKLik IdeaStudio Library, search for the template and select the + to add the template to the canvas.
- Ungroup the SVG design to allow us to pick and choice the components we will be using. For this project we are using the daisy and leaf shape.
The daisy design has an empty circle in the center so you will need to ungroup it to ensure it is 1 solid piece.
- Using the add a shape feature, add a square to your canvas.
- This will serve as a guide to how big or small your flowers should be in order to fit inside you wooden frame. For this tutorial, my wooden frame measures 4.25in by 4.25in.
- Here is a digital mockup of what we are going to be creating.
- Using 1 of the daisy shape, resize the paper flower to fit inside of your frame template. This is the peach-colored daisy shape below.
- Using the same daisy shape, resize the paper flower to be much smaller than the first daisy size, this will be your flower center. This is the yellow-colored daisy shape below.
For this tutorial, I wanted to make 2 larger daisies and 2 smaller daisies to go into the frame.
- Now copy and paste the daisy shapes so that you have 4 large petals plus 2 small petals for each daisy you are making.
Great job! Now you have the designs ready to cut.
- Send all of the pieces to cut, except for the 4.25in square you created as the template of your wooden frame.

Assembling the Paper Flowers and Decorating the Wooden Frame
-
Begin with the large daisy shapes by folding each petal in half using your nails. As you see in the photos below, I stack all 4 layers together and fold them as a group.
-
Using a kabob stick or similar, roll the smaller daisy shape upward to create the flower bud.
-
You will do the same for each of the daisies you are making.
- Using a paper shaping tool, gently roll the center of each layer on a soft/foam mat. This will help add dimension to your paper flower.
- Begin to glue each paper flower together by gluing the first 2 layers in a staggered position. Then the 3rd layer will be glued at the same position as the first layer and the 4th layer the same position as the 2nd layer.
- Gently glue one of the small rolled petals inside the other rolled petal. This is your bud for the daisy.
- I use the same paper shaping tool or the kabob stick to help push the center bud onto the flower and ensure that the glue properly adheres.
You are now done with the first flower, repeat this process for the remaining flowers.
-
Using a paper scrapper tool (or a credit card), fold each paper leaf in the center.
-
As the wooden frame was small in size, I glued the paper leaves prior gluing the paper flowers. This would ensure that the leaves do not cover the paper flowers.
-
Using craft glue or a hot glue gun, glue the paper flowers on to your wooden frame.
-
Use the kabob stick to press down on the center of the flower to ensure that it is properly adhering to the wooden frame.
WONDERFUL!!! You have made a beautiful wooden frame with handmade paper flowers. Hope this craft brings joy and a smile to your recipient. Who are you making your wooden frame for?
