Project | Coffee and Book Cushion

I love making these book cushions and before getting my Loklik machine I always used to embroider the pocket. It’s great to have the option to do both.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Cotton Fabric and sewing machine to make your cushion.
(See this earlier post for details on making the cushion Valentine Book Cushion)
HeatTransfer Vinyl
T-shirt Transfer for dark fabric
Design Software (IdeaStudio)
Ink Jet Printer
Heat Press

Once you have made your cushion, you are ready to choose your design for the pocket.
I went with 2 different techniques -
HTV for the words and Print & Cut for the picture.
T-Shirt Transfer
You can use sublimation, but for those of us that don’t have it, the design doesn’t have to be mirrored (flipped) and is printed on to dark fabric transfer paper. I chose an image of books with a coffee cup and place it inside the heart. You can choose your own design and once you’re happy, resize it to 4”(10cm) high and send to the printer.
Place the printed sheet on a light grip mat (blue) and use the cutting settings for Loklik - Matt Printable Vinyl Sticker Paper.
This will be attached to the pocket using your heat press at 180C for a max 60 secs.
Always use the sheet supplied or a Teflon sheet to protect your work.
HTV
Make sure to mirror before cutting. I cut each colour separately and positioned them on the pocket in turn, starting with the glitter vinyl, then the remaining words and finally the decorative hearts and swirl which was made with holographic HTV.
For the glitter vinyl you’ll need your heat press at 160c for 15 sec.
For the smooth vinyl your settings need to be 150c for 15 sec.
Always use your Teflon Protection sheet when pressing.
Hope you enjoy having a go at this.

I’ve been making them for a few years. They’ve always been popular and people also love when I personalise it for them.
