Hello Community!
It’s Tuesday again, time for a little chat!
Every time I see the beautiful bookmarks shared in our community, I’m reminded of a small “craft” I made as a kid.
It was a simple bookmark for a friend — just a piece of cardstock with a few doodles on it, and I used a compass to punch a hole and tie a short piece of string through it.
It wasn’t fancy at all, but I still remember how proud I felt for making something with my own hands.
Most of us never planned to become “crafters.”
Sometimes it just starts with watching someone make a cute keychain or trying a small project on a quiet afternoon.
So what would you recommend to someone new to crafting — something easy, fun, and a great way to start?
Maybe something simple like clay charms or stickers?
Or something relaxing like decorating a box or making a custom little gift for their favorite star?
With a few festive seasons coming up, your ideas might inspire someone to try that kind of project for the first time lol.

For me, making keychains is a great way to start crafting! They’re small but so satisfying to create, especially when you want to personalize them. Plus, they make such lovely keepsakes or gifts.
I think first I would ask the beginner what type of project they could be interested in not everyone wants to use vinyl and htv but I used to make photo frames that used paper punches to round the corner and paw print paper punches but I think right now with the holiday session coming up I would go with making some form of gift tags useful and adds a bit extra to gifts. I would make stencils to use and pull out some paper punches. Going back to simple with a mix of I used my cutting machine for this can be a great introduction into crafting.
I totally agree @Judi_B , you would need to get a feel for what projects the beginner likes and go from there. Especially learning a new skill, no one will want to try and make something that they have no interest in.
In saying that, I think @timmytation has got the right idea. The first project I recommend for my beginners is to make adhesive vinyl labels for their kitchen pantry Tupperware or shelves etc. Just like this
If they are more into paper making, I suggest a card or a cake topper to get them started.
For me, I will recommend doing photo on sintra board because they will only be needing a printer, photo sticker and sintra board and can layout simple design using canva. This is where I also started, making own photo on sintra and eventually offer the personalized items online. Its funny that some of my friends ordered a lot even if I am just starting that time because they love how I edit the photos.
For beginners, this christmas ornament is perfect for vinyl practice. The smooth surface is ideal for learning how to apply adhesive vinyl or try layering designs — a great first project for Loklik users.
For Beginners I would definitely recommend practicing and gifting key chains.
Acrylic key chains made with adhesive vinyl and leather key chains made with Htv this way they practice on working with both kinds of vinyl and they can promote their business with gifting the people they know with affordable products
Stickers are my fave beginner craft! There’s so many you can make of different designs and so easy to make too. and if you have a knack for design it’s great for really releasing that creative flow into something that everyone loves to receive. I don’t care how old I am, if I’m given a really cool sticker I get so happy it makes my day.
My first was a Tumbler and a Mug jajaj but for beginners now I think a simple cute Keychain because its easy to make and beautiful and meaningfull and by now I’m still discovering make bookmarks and Love It too!
